Dr. Said Ibrahim is a Professor of Medicine at Penn's Perelman School of Medicine and Director of the Veterans Administration's Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP). He is also an ex-officio member of the National Advisory Council on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NACMHD) of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD). His work involves quantitative and qualitative research on the impact of race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and culture on health care access, utilization, and outcomes. His examination of access to and utilization of joint replacement in the management of knee/hip osteoarthritis advanced health disparities research from first-generation studies detecting disparities in care, to second-generation studies exploring reasons for these disparities, to the first-ever third-generation intervention trial to reduce a well-documented disparity.
